Roselle police seek leads in false Lake Park bomb threat

Roselle police are pursing leads on who might be responsible for false bomb threats made Wednesday to Lake Park High School’s east campus.

Deputy Chief Roman Tarchala said police are pursing an investigation that could lead to charges, but said no arrests had been made by late Wednesday afternoon.

After several hours on site, police did not find anything dangerous at the campus that houses freshman and sophomores, following multiple bomb threats made by phone just before 9 a.m.

Roselle police and DuPage County sheriff’s deputies swept the inside of the building at 600 S. Medinah Road, as well as its perimeter. Officers from Bloomingdale, Elk Grove Village, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park and Itasca also assisted.

The school was initially on a precautionary soft lockdown after the first phone call, and students were required to remain in their classrooms while police conducted a preliminary search.

Parents were notified by two phone calls from the school.

Officials said students were evacuated once police said it was safe for them to leave. Most students on the campus were bused, but some parents picked up their teens and some others walked home.

Students were required to leave behind their backpacks and purses during second period, school officials said.

Police then conducted a more thorough search of the empty building, as well as the bags and backpacks.

School and all after-school activities and athletics at east campus were canceled Wednesday. Students will report to their second period classes Thursday to pick up their belongings, then proceed with their normal schedules, officials said.
