Between Heaven and Mirth:

Why Joy, Humor and Laughter are at the Heart of the Spiritual Life

Reinhold Niebuhr said “Humor is a prelude to faith, and laughter is the beginning of prayer.” Gods wants us to experience joy, to cultivate a sense of holy humor, and to laugh at life's absurdities—not to mention at our own humanity. Drawing on scripture, history, and anecdote we will rediscover the importance of humor and laughter in our daily lives and the essential truth that faith leads to joy. Led by Pastor Kyle Roggenbuck.

Native American and Roman Catholic: Drawing the Spirit from Two Streams

Integrating two different cultures is a trying task, even more so when those cultures have often been seen as conflicting. Many Native American Christians struggle to find wholeness and acceptance from the combination of their ancient traditional beliefs and more recent Christian background. Micheal John Reszler, a pastoral resource at the Katari Center in Chicago, will share his own wisdom in finding the best of both worlds, and sharing Christianity in a way that we may never have seen before. Micheal writes, “I hope to assist my Native brothers and sisters on their journey of equality and peace.” To learn more about the Center, visit http://www.katericenterchicago.org.

The Source of Miracles: 7 Steps to Transforming Your Life Through the Lord's Prayer

In this brilliant book, author Kathleen McGowan reveals the true secret to a joyous and fulfilling life, using the Lord's Prayer to create real and lasting change in the soul. During this class, we will explore the seven steps in the process, corresponding to a primary teaching of the Lord's Prayer. On November 18, Meg Rift will utilize a relaxed rhythm of commentary, guided meditation, music, imagery and conversation and participants will create an individualized bracelet or prayer chord reflecting the Lord's Prayer. Meg is an avocational beading artist, workshop leader and former editor and developer of denominational curriculum for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). There is a $15 fee per participant for beading supplies and registration is required by calling the church office. Led by Lynne Danekas.
