Carol Stream, Ill. -- October 1, 2012 -- Twenty-five years ago, the Rev. Torrey M. Johnson founded Windsor Park Manor with the vision of developing a Christian senior living community that would offer caring support for seniors throughout all stages of their aging.
On Wednesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 4, Windsor Park, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, will celebrate their 25th Anniversary. Karen Larson, Executive Director of Windsor Park, invites the community to visit, remember and share stories of the past 25 years at the public events. Visitors can also view the results of Phase 1 of an ambitious renovation plan of the public spaces.

A reception and dinner takes place beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 3 for residents and invited guests. At 6:00 p.m., a program in the auditorium, which is open to the public, will recognize six residents as "pioneers" and feature two keynote speakers and two Windsor Park music ensembles.
C. William Pollard, Chairman Emeritus of ServiceMaster Company, will share a remembrance of Windsor Park and its impact on the community. Dr. John Huffman, Pastor Emeritus of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA. and Chairman of the Board of Directors for Christianity Today International will deliver the keynote address.
Thursday's program begins at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium, with greetings from Mayor Frank Savarino of Carol Stream and Mayor Michael Gresk of Wheaton. Recognition of the "pioneers" and former board members, two more Windsor Park music ensembles and guest speaker Rick Fisk, President of Covenant Retirement Communities comprise the morning's program. A picnic on the lawn with special food tents and guest musicians follows.
The six residents identified by Windsor Park as "pioneers" are unique in that they have maintained a residence in the facility since it opened in 1987. The residents are: Clarence Aronson, Dorothy Gerber, Dorothy Killam, Elvira McCanna, Virginia Roberts, and Mary Alice Bates.

About the Rev. Torrey M. Johnson:
Torrey Johnson was born and raised in the Chicago area and graduated from Wheaton College in 1930. He attended Northwestern University's Dental School for two years, but changed his mind about his career choice. He graduated with a B.D. from the Northern Baptist Seminary in Chicago. He then began his long career in ministry. At one point in Johnson's career, he was a catalyst in developing Youth for Christ International, serving as its president from 1945 -- 1948.
