Cigelnik fires school-record 33 for Mundelein
On a perfect day for golf, Mundelein’s Bret Cigelnik was nearly perfect.
The junior shot a school-record 33 for nine holes, leading the Mustangs (143) past Niles West (165) and Niles North (181) in a triangular at Steeple Chase Golf Club Wednesday.
Mundelein also received 36s from Chuck Mohr and Mike Lima and 38s from Derek Parola and Grant Heelan.
Carmel d. Libertyville: At Pine Meadow, Tommy Schofield and Jared Moore shot matching 35s, as the Corsairs carded a 148 to top the Wildcats (163).
Jackson Wietecha added a 37 for Carmel, and Nathan Ley had a 41.
Matt Reed’s 38 paced Libertyville, while Peter Henderson chipped in a 40.
“We need more than one player in the 30s,” Libertyville coach Sean Matthews said.
Vernon Hills d. Marian Central: At White Deer Run, Chris Edwards’ 1-over 37 led the Cougars, who shot a 164 to win by six strokes.
Eric Swanson and Russell Hutson added a 41 and 42, respectively, while Connor Dickman and James Roussel each had a 44.
