Jacobs bows out in state semis

Jacobs’ summer baseball run came to an end with Thursday’s 5-4 eight-inning loss to Lyons Twp. in the Phil Lawler Classic semifinals at Lisle’s Benedictine University.

With the bases loaded an no outs in the bottom of the eighth, the Lions’ Sam Cybulski singled up the middle to drive in the winning run. The Golden Eagles finished their summer season with a 26-4 record.

Jacobs fell behind 4-0 while being held hitless by Lions starter Tom Prescott through four innings. The Golden Eagles broke through for a pair of fifth-inning runs behind 3 errors.

After Grant Kale’s run-scoring groundout made it 4-3 in the sixth, Kenny Finn tied the game by coming home on a wild pitch. Both sides saw scoring chances thwarted until the Lions (31-4) tallied the game-winner.
