Academic stars also play big library role

Congratulations to all of the members of the 2011-12 Daily Herald Academic Team. The Schaumburg Township District Library is especially proud of Academic Team members Meran Liu and Avni Bavishi, who have served as Student Advisory Trustees for the past year.

These two exceptional young women have been involved with the library’s Teen Services for the past five years and turned in hundreds of book reviews through our reading programs. Additionally, they have volunteered hundreds of hours assisting with teen programs, including making cards for soldiers, collecting books for a daycare center and collecting food for the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.

Scholastic achievements are only part of what makes Meran and Avni so special to the library staff. Their friendly, outgoing personalities and enthusiasm are appreciated by parents and children alike when they help with children’s programs such as How to Play Chess, various games, and Teens Teach Tuesdays in which a teen pairs up with a younger child to make a craft.

Now that construction is underway for the library’s new Teen Center, Meran and Avni have been doing a great job promoting the new center to their classmates and other teens attending programs.

On behalf of the library board and staff, I not only congratulate Avni and Meran, but also extend a heartfelt thanks for their contributions to the library’s Teen Services.
