Girl, 9, approached by man on her way to Winfield school

Winfield police are investigating a possible child abduction attempt that occurred Wednesday morning as a 9-year-old girl was walking to school.

The girl was walking to Pleasant Hill School, 1N 220 Pleasant Hill Road, when a man in a vehicle approached her as she was crossing the street.

The man asked the girl, “Hey, do you want a ride to school,” prompting the girl to walk faster toward a neighboring residence.

Police said the man repeated the question, and the girl ran to the school, where she told the staff what happened.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned white or Hispanic man with possibly short, dark, “slicked back” hair, according to police. He did not have any distinguishing features or accents.

He was driving a mid-sized blue-steel color sedan with no identifiable features, according to police. Driver immediately left the area going north on Pleasant Hill Road, police said.

Winfield police searched the area but did not locate the vehicle or suspect.

Police are asking anyone who observed a suspicious person, vehicle or activity or who has any information to call (630) 933-7160.
