Three charged in Warrenville man's death

Three people are facing murder charges in last month's shooting death of 24-year-old Raymond J. Jerz Jr. of Warrenville, authorities said Saturday.

Ray Guereca, 21, of the 2600 block of south Sacramento Avenue in Chicago; Luis Valdez, 20, of the 3000 block of 53rd Street in Chicago; and a 16-year-old girl whom police would not name because she is a juvenile all were charged with first-degree murder in Jerz's Feb. 11 death, Chicago police news affairs officer John Mirabelli said Saturday.

Jerz and a 33-year-old man apparently lost their car keys and came into contact with the suspects when they sought help, Mirabelli said.

“The victims offered the offenders payment in exchange for a ride to the train,” he said.

Guereca, Valedez and the 16-year-old girl drove Jerz and the other man to the 3000 block of 23rd Street in Chicago. The trio then battered Jerz and his companion and shot Jerz multiple times, Mirabelli said.

Jerz was a graduate of Community High School in West Chicago.
