Van crashes through Schaumburg library entrance

A minivan crashed through the front door and into the lobby of the Schaumburg Township District Library late Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The man driving the van, who was in his 80s, and his wife in the passenger seat were both cut as the vehicle crashed through sliding glass doors of the library at 130 S. Roselle Road, said Schaumburg fire Capt. Martin Sand.

No pedestrians were struck by the vehicle, which crashed through the building about 4:45 p.m., said Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl.

The vehicle ended up in the main foyer area at the front entrance.

Board-up crews were at the scene helping police and fire crews shore up the entranceway, which sustained significant damage, Nebl said.

Both the man and his wife were taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital with the minor injuries, Sand said.

Fire officials said there was no structural damage to the building and the library was able to remain open.
