Jacobs’ Siska advances to state

Jacobs will send one senior to the IHSA girls state bowling finals but the Golden Eagles came up just short as a team on Saturday at the DeKalb sectional.

The Golden Eagles’ Sarah Siska rolled a six-game series of 1,247 to finish fourth individually and secure a place in the state tournament next weekend at Cherry Bowl in Rockford.

DeKalb’s Savanna Meyers was the individual champion with a 1,288. St. Charles East’s Katherine Sulaitis was second (1,281). She secured a spot at state along with Siska as they were the top two bowlers not on an advancing team.

DeKalb won the team title with a 5,830 score and will be joined at state by Marengo, which had a 5,799. Jacobs was third with 5,706 and St. Charles East fourth (5,672).

Jacobs has two potential at-large qualifiers in junior Erica Smetters and sophomore Lyric Dodson.

South Elgin, with a 4,874, was the highest finisher next to Jacobs from the Fox Valley.
