Go watch birds migrate in McHenry

Submitted by MCCD

Join local bird enthusiasts on a search for migratory birds stopping over at Glacial Park in “Migratory Madness” from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, or 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Glacial Park Conservation Area, 6316 Harts Road in Ringwood.

Don’t miss a chance to witness the migration of groups of grassland birds and water fowl such as Rufous Eastern Towhee, Palm Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Green-winged Teal as they move through the area headed for warmer southern climates.

Meet at the Powers-Walker House parking lot north off Harts Road.

After the hike, the group will head back to the house to share notes and refreshments.

Bring binoculars and field guides if you have them. This program for adults ages 14 and older is free for county residents and $2 for nonresidents. Registration is required.

Visit the district’s website at www.MCCDistrict.org to view the programs in greater detail or sign up to receive the quarterly newsletter, Landscapes.

Registration is accepted online, by phone, (815) 479-5779, mail or walk-in at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.
