Graduation speakers: Aryanne Navarro and Jasmin Gray

Class Officers: Shivani Raj, President; Gabriela Vazquez, Vice President; Brooke Kalous, Secretary; Julia Everett, Public Relations.

Academic achievements:

• College Board National Merit Recognition - Joey Jorgenson, Letter of Commendation; Hunter Savell, Letter of Commendation; William Zeigler, Letter of Commendation.

• Angelina Roman-Alcocer - National Hispanic Recognition Award

• Gabrielle King - National African American Recognition Award

• Ramon Perez - National Hispanic Recognition Award

• Elizabeth Klann - National Merit Finalist

• Aarya Patel - National Merit Finalist

• Gabriele Vazquez earned a Quest Bridge Scholarship to the University of Chicago

• Hunter Savell earned a full ride to SCAD the Savannah College of Art and Design

• Aarya Patel earned the Stamps Scholarship (full ride) to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

• Kyle Delaney - 1st Chair Euphonium in the Illinois Music Education Conference All-State Band

• Joseph Falcus - Cast member for Illinois Theatre Festival All-State show

• Hunter Savell - 1st place finish in the ArtConnectED Graphic Design Art Throwdown

• Jazz Ensemble invited to perform at Illinois Music Education Conference and Elmhurst Jazz Festival

• Best in Class Awards from IHSA Organizational Contest - 1. Wind Ensemble; 2. Jazz Ensemble; 3. Combined Orchestra

• Winter Guard - earned 3rd in class after being moved up a class partway through the season

Athletic achievements:

• Boys Cross Country qualified for state

• Girls Cross Country qualified for state and placed 5th

• Co-ed cheer qualified for state

• Girls Golf won conference at JV and Varsity levels

• Girls Volleyball won regionals and were sectional finalists

• Football qualified for the playoffs

Theater productions:

• Fall Play - "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding, adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams

• Musical - "Pippin," book by Roger O. Hirson, Music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

• Spring Comedy Showcase - "The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon," by Don Zolidis, "Hey! Who Turned Off the Lights?" written and performed by the 2022 Hey! Who? Team.

Senior Class gift: The seniors are planning on planting a tree to represent their growth at Lakes and their continued growth in the next adventures in their lives.

What was new in 2021-22:

District 117 opened up a new fieldhouse that is attached to the north end of Lakes Community High School. This is a shared facility with our sister school Antioch and we are enjoying the benefits of this 70,000-square-foot space during the school day and during our after-school activities.

What challenges did the Class of 2022 face as they returned to in-person school full time, and how did they overcome them:

The class of 2022 endured the pandemic for a good portion of their high school years. The resilience and leadership the class of 2022 has shown have been tremendous to watch. We have had a very positive year with many successes to celebrate. We are very proud of all of our students and look forward to what they will accomplish in the future.

Principal's reflections on the Class of 2022:

As the Principal of Lakes Community High School, I continue to be impressed by the accomplishments of our students and especially the class of 2022. The leadership of this group of students brought us back from the devastating effects of the pandemic to make this year one of the best we have had. The class of 2022 has taken on the challenge of our motto of "Respect + Courtesy = Pride" to leave a legacy of positivity for other classes to follow. The hardships the class of 2022 persevered over have made them strong and resilient. This grit that they have developed will allow them to take on challenges in the future with confidence. We are very proud of the class of 2022 and wish them the best of luck in the future.
