Principal's reflections on the Class of 2022:

As freshmen, you came into a building you did not know and adapted immediately to the change you faced. You navigated the physical and social cues while walking in the hallways, attending assemblies, and showing up to athletics contests like football, softball, and basketball games. Some of you experienced changes in your physical appearance. You grew, you matured, you adapted to new friends and boyfriends or girlfriends. You adapted to the day-to-day life of being a high school student, and you did it so well. Some of you changed by getting that first job, trying a new sport, or walking with your friends to Dairy Queen after school before going home.

In March of 2020, you were faced with what we all thought was a minor change. You were sent home due to a changing environment caused by a new virus sweeping the country and world. We did not know what lay ahead. All we could guarantee was that change was coming, regardless of when we would return to school. We never expected that change to be so great. But you adapted to it and succeeded, as evidenced by you being here today. You dealt with an entire year of change by not being present for the start of your junior year.

Your senior year changed as well, and again you adapted and adjusted and overcame. You had to teach the underclass students what it means to be a Sequoit and how we expect everyone to behave and succeed. You had to show what it meant to bring anything but a backpack to school with your kayak, grill, or cat scratching tree. You showed the rest of the student body what it meant to have school spirit and to support your classmates. You adjusted to this change and unexpected weight of leadership with grace and compassion. Every single graduate adapted and fought through the struggles and fears that come with all types of the changes you faced; and you succeeded. Life changed, how you celebrated changed, how you competed changed, how you communicated changed, and how you learned changed. You continually have demonstrated an amazing ability to adjust and adapt to any change you have faced. There is nothing that you will face in your future for which you are not prepared. From today on forward, you will enjoy new adventures, encounter new people, and adjust to new life events. Know that you have overcome every change you have faced and that you can do the same with anything in the future. Now you are about to change once again. You will change from a high school student to a graduate. It is without a doubt that I know you are ready. Continue doing what you have done here when you face change: embrace it, view it as a challenge, conquer it, and continue moving forward with your head held high, proud of who you are and who you will become!

Through the hard work and support of your teachers, your parents and guardians, and your peers, I kNow that you are prepared for anything. From different backgrounds, varied accomplishments, and distinct and unique perspectives, you have come together as critical pieces of the puzzle to Antioch's success. You have clearly demonstrated what it means to be respectful, responsible, and proud. Thank you for showing us what it means to be a Sequoit. And, one thing that will never change is Once a Sequoit, always a Sequoit!
