    Namco Entertainment Inc., the Wood Dale-based company affiliated with the makers of Pac-Man, plans to open a high-end, gaming-themed restaurant and entertainment center at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. The new concept restaurant, including eight lanes of bowling, will open in 40,000 square feet of warehouse space formerly used by Sears on the upper level of the mall, according to the village.

    McKendree University girls bowling coach Danielle Belobraydich was at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford on Saturday watching two of her recruits, Leyden’s Reba Hall and Sarah Wille of Hoffman Estates, compete in the state bowling finals. She saw the two seniors put on quite a show. Hall finished just 29 pins away from a state individual title in leading her Eagles team to a second-place state finish, while Wille propelled Hoffman to an unprecentended rally. The Hawks were in 12th place early but a record-setting team series of 1,188 in game 3 Saturday – the best ever team game in state meet history – helped Hoffman take home the third place trophy.

    Making her way up the leaderboard wasn’t out of the question for Sarah Littleton of Grayslake North on the second day of competition in girls bowling state tournament at Cherry Bowl at Saturday. She started the day in 37th place and kept her focus on knocking down pins, game after game. She worked her way into the top 20, finishing 42 pins away from a medal. Littleon concluded the two-day tournament in 18th place, with 2,553 over the 12 games.

    Libertyville’s girls bowling team, making its first trip to state in 14 years, had hopes of joining Friday’s top-performing squads in Saturday’s finals. And the Wildcats did produce one of their best games of the season with a 1,036, but it wasn’t quite enough as Libertyville finished in 20th place. The Wildcats’ Natalie Zeng, however, will still be bowling on Saturday after advancing as an individual. She made that cut by 3 pins, with 1,187 for six games at Cherry Bowl.

    The Leyden girls bowling team has been one of the top athletic programs in the school the last four years, and now they’re adding to that distinction. After Friday’s opening session of the state tournament at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford, the talented Eagles are poised for their best finish ever. Leyden, whose senior-laden team has been to Rockford for four consecutive years, ended day one in second place — just behind leader Waubonsie Valley, the defending champs. And as usual senior Reba Hall, who has taken ninth and third individually in state the last two seasons, is leading the way. Hall has a great chance to win the individual state title. All six of her games Friday were over 200, with high marks of 279 and 257.

  • Schaumburg rolls to Z-B sectional victoryFeb 15, 2014 12:00 AM
    Schaumburg’s girls bowling team rolled its best game of the season, totaling 1,154 in its fourth game, and that carried the Saxons to the Zion-Benton sectional championship at Sunset Lanes in Waukegan on Saturday. Schaumburg will be making a trip back to the state tournament at Cherry Bowl in Rockford on Friday and Saturday. Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove and Libertyville also advanced out of the sectional. Grayslake North’s Sarah Littleton and Jessica Vaughn, Emma Wrenn of Hersey, Dundee-Crown’s Karissa Gonio and Amy Hollingswood of Zion-Benton also qualified for state.

    It was a record-breaking day for the Dundee-Crown girls bowling team Saturday. The Chargers not only won their first postseason title in program history, but also set a new program record for highest 6-game series after placing first at the Buffalo Grove regional at Arlington Lanes in Arlington Heights.

     
  • Nifty finish lifts Grayslake North to regional win Feb 8, 2014 12:00 AM
    Grayslake North’s girls bowling team had been in pursuit of a nice, round number all season long — reaching 1,000 in a game as a team. The Knights picked a nice time to attain that goal, bettering the mark by 29 pins in posting 1,029 in their final game on Saturday. It was more than enough for Grayslake North to take home the Round Lake regional championship with a 6-game total of 5,620 at Lakes Bowl in Round Lake. Warren earned the runner-up spot (5,556) as Antioch (5,338) and Zion-Benton (5,008) and Grayslake North all advanced to the Zion-Benton sectional, to be held next Saturday at Sunset Bowl in Waukegan. Sarah Littleton of Grayslake North finished as the top Individual with a 1,266.

     
  • Conant’s Anzalone excels as Elk Grove wins regional Feb 8, 2014 12:00 AM
    Angela Anzalone wasn’t just bowling for herself and her teammates at Saturday’s regional tournament. She was also dedicating her performance to her late grandfather. Eugene Anzalone passed way last week, and Angela said that he was a “great supporter” of her athletic efforts at Conant. Somewhere up there, grandpa had to have a big smile on his face Saturday as his granddaughter excelled at Hoffman Bowl. Anzalone had the top score by a wide margin with a 6-game total of 1,303 in leading her team to a berth at next week’s Zion-Benton sectional. Conant, Elk Grove (winners of the regional with a score of 5695), Schaumburg and Mid-Suburban League champion Hoffman Estates all advanced to next weeks’s sectional tournament.

    This year’s IHSA girls’ bowling state series features a new twist. A regional level of competition has been added where the top 4 teams in each regional and the top 10 individuals not on qualifying teams advance to the sectional round. Regionals get underway Saturday morning. District 300 neighbors Jacobs and Dundee-Crown are two Fox Valley-area teams looking to carry over regular-season success into the new postseason format.
