Mainstreet Gallery is hosting its first juried competition exhibition, "Water Works," in October. This exhibition will feature original paintings of water and water activities throughout the Midwest.
The paintings will include beach scenes, sunsets over water, boating, waterfalls and fireworks over the lake. Many scenes are from Lake Zurich and neighboring towns.
"These paintings evoke summer memories we have shared with family and friends. The best memories of summertime, which we cherish. It's a short season to do special things with kids and family, cramming it all in before school starts again. And we wanted to celebrate that," gallery owner Frankie Johnson said.
The artists featured in the exhibition have captured many various expressions of water, family memories, and fun in their paintings. They have portrayed the calm of the sunset reflecting on a tranquil lake, the excitement of a water skier's spray, or the whimsy of children playing on the beach.
The show will hang at Mainstreet Gallery through October. The paintings exhibited are the finalists from a juried competition and will be for sale.
An exhibition open house and reception will be held at the gallery from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14. Awards will be announced during the reception. Complementary appetizers and refreshments will be provided and there will be a raffle.
"This event will be so special," Johnson said, "Something will touch your heart, for sure. It will bring back special memories of summertime."
