Project CURE to unveil sculpture, inspired by 13-year-old artist, for Ukrainian Independence Day Aug. 24

In celebration of Ukraine Independence Day, Project C.U.R.E. will partner with the Consulate General of Ukraine in Chicago to unveil a Ukraine-inspired sculpture by 13-year-old artist Ryan Hirschhorn. The ceremony will take place at the Consulate General of Ukraine Chicago at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at 10 Huron St., in Chicago.

Hirschhorn created his sculpture, titled "The Hearts of Ukraine," with the purpose of highlighting the atrocities cause by the war and to raise money to help provide essential medical supplies to those impacted. So far, he has raised almost $50,000 and his goal is to double that amount.

Project C.U.R.E., which has a local distribution in Woodridge, is the world's largest distributor of donated medical equipment and supplies to resource-limited communities across the globe.

Since the war began in early 2022, Project C.U.R.E. has delivered more than 115 shipments to Ukraine, which included 86 air cargo shipments. Supplies provided included wound and critical care supplies, crutches and wheelchairs, PPE, and much more.

Ukraine Independence Day marks Ukraine's declaration of independence from the U.S.S.R. in 1991. Visitors and media are invited to attend this event.

"These hearts mean a lot to me," Hirschhorn said. "These hearts, to me, mean that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. These hearts mean that there is hope. These hearts mean that if we work together, we will persevere."

Project C.U.R.E. was founded in 1987 to address the staggering shortage of medical resources around the world. Since our humble beginnings in a garage in Colorado, Project C.U.R.E. has become the world's largest distributor of donated medical supplies, equipment and services to doctors and nurses serving the sick and dying in more than 135 countries.

Our programs are funded by grants from the U.S. government, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and by the generous support of philanthropic foundations, corporate partners, and individual donors.
