You need a license to operate on the amateur radio frequencies. They share the air waves with commercial radio, television, police and fire, military and everyone that uses wireless communication including cell phone companies. They can build and design their own equipment and do all kinds of experiments. We also have our own communication satiates, and bounce radio signals off the moon just for fun.

The Amateur license is often the first step to a commercial license or an engineering degree. Elmers will be available for hands on help so bring your questions.

Many Amateurs communicate with other radio enthusiasts around the world with 5 watts or less of power and a wire antenna, with equipment that they build themselves.
