Kane County Juvenile Justice Council to host spring speaker series

On May 23-24, the Kane County Juvenile Justice Council is hosting a two-day speaker series for those working with Kane County youth.

Session I from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, will focus on promoting avenues to cross-agency data collection as well as exploring practical uses for data, including: identifying existing systemic and practice level strengths and challenges; analyzing the effectiveness of initiatives; understanding demographics and experiences of particular populations; and to support the sustainability of efforts.

The speakers will be: Alexandra Miller, Ph.D., deputy director for multi-system operations at Georgetown University's Center for Juvenile Justice Reform; Judge Bryan Murray, Bannock County, Idaho Juvenile Court Judge; Macon Stewart, MSW, senior deputy director at Georgetown University's Center for Juvenile Justice Reform; and Thomas Strauss, MPA, director and principal research analyst at the Idaho Statistical Analysis Center with the Idaho State Police.

Session II will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, will outline how local policymakers, system leaders, and practitioners can develop a strategic approach to reducing recidivism, strengthening community safety, and improving outcomes for youth. Specifically, the presentation will cover how to match youth with the most effective level and type of supervision and services, track system performance and outcomes, hold all parties accountable for results that keep communities safe, and ensure resources are allocated efficiently across the juvenile justice and other youth-serving systems.

The speaker will be Stephanie Shaw, MA, Juvenile Justice Project Manager at the Council of State Governments Justice Center.
