Bloomingdale Chamber offers programs for seniors

Bloomingdale Area Women in Business is hosting a free informational panel, "The Journey to Successful Senior Living: Am I Prepared?" on Wednesday, April 19.

Many women find themselves caught between caring for their children and parents, often called the sandwich generation. It can be overwhelmingly stressful being pulled into multiple directions between parents care, children and family's needs and your own career and work commitments.

This panel discussion presented by local experts: Oasis Senior Advisors, CareBuilders at Home, Kastle Keeper, L&M Financial Services Inc. and Knauf Law will answer your many questions and concerns, and educate you on alternatives for you and your parents and family. The panel will provide suggestions, guidance and support to help navigate the questions during the senior living journey.

Topics include: "Senior Living Process - Plan vs. Crisis," "POA, Wills, Trusts," "Safety in the Home," "Discussing Different Types of Senior Living Options," and "How Do I Pay For This?

The free event, which is open to the public, begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Park District, 172 Circle Ave. Registration is suggested at BloomingdaleChamber.com/Events so enough seating can be made available. Call the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce at (630) 980-9082 with any questions.

This panel is a follow-up to the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce's free Senior Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, April 14, at the Medinah Banquets, 750 Shriners Road, Addison.

The Senior Fair is a community event designed specifically for seniors, their families and caregivers. The event will feature a range of exhibitors and vendors showcasing products and services that cater to the needs of seniors. Attendees can expect to find information on healthcare, financial planning, housing options, government resources, vaccines and more

In addition to the exhibitors, the Senior Fair will also offer hearing and vision screening by the Bloomingdale Lions Club. Be sure to check in early with them to secure your spot.

"I'm excited to bring in new vendors, one in particular is the GrandPad," said Cindy Allston, President/CEO of the Bloomingdale Chamber of Commerce. "I found out about this when my uncle was in need of something just like it. A pad, verses a small phone, with easy to read icons to help a senior navigate making calls, view the television and using technology that can be overwhelming for a generation that did not grow up with it. We'll have a demo available for attendees to view and try out."

The Senior Fair is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends, family members and caregivers. Light refreshments will be provided along with door prizes.
