McHenry County College to host third annual 24-Hour Play Competition

The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College is once again hosting its popular 24-Hour Play Competition this spring.

The competition challenges groups of 2-7 people to write, rehearse, and perform a play within 24 hours. Groups will arrive at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21 and work through April 22 until performances begin at 6 p.m. that evening.

"This event is an enjoyable exercise in creativity," said Jay Geller, instructor of theatre and speech at MCC. "It teaches participants to push their limits and collaborate with each other-all under the pressure of a running clock."

There will be a cash prize given for the winning play. Food and beverages will be provided throughout the 24 hours. There is a $25 entry fee per group. Be prepared to stay all night and through the next day. The competition is open to the public.

Groups can sign up at bit.ly/3KvGUzL. Signup deadline is April 15.

The competition will be held at the Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Park in Parking Lot C and enter through Building E.
