Roselle Park District Garden Club taking scholarship applications

The Roselle Park District Garden Club is dedicated to educating members about gardening, as well as promoting the preservation of native plants, trees, and flowers.

The club encourages beautification and environmental awareness within the community through periodic gardening workshops and informative programs on garden-related topics presented by Master Gardeners.

The Roselle Park District Garden Club is offering the opportunity to award one $1,000 scholarship for the 2023-24 school year.

Interested graduating high school seniors and current college students who wish to apply for this scholarship should complete this packet and return it no later than March 15. Late submissions will not be considered.

The scholarship applicant must be pursuing an environmentally related degree (such as earth science, ecology, environmental science, horticulture, landscape design/architecture, botany, etc.)

The applicant must comply with all of the following criteria:

• Resident of the Village of Roselle, Illinois;

• Plan to attend or are attending a two-or four-year college;

• Provide copies of high school transcripts or current college grades;

• Provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher, volunteer coordinator, or community leader;

• Complete the information requested in this packet in its entirety;

• Submit a typed, 500-word essay describing his/her future plans as they relate to this scholarship.

Upon request, the award recipient is to provide to the Roselle Park District Garden Club the mailing address of the college they have been admitted to or are currently attending.

The award check will be mailed directly to the college's financial aid office on behalf of the student.

The Roselle Park District Garden Club, founded in 2008, is a group of dedicated community members who share a love of all things related to gardening. Whether you are a new homeowner, an experienced gardener or somewhere in between, the club offers informative programs, inspiring outings and fun activities.

The club meetings are on the first Thursday of the month, September through June. Due to changing COVID-19 mitigation protocols, the meetings vary between in-person and virtual via Zoom. Visit the club's Facebook page for current meeting locations.

The club's monthly gatherings cover a wide range of gardening related topics from gardening, environmental issues, trees and more. Additionally, the club sponsors a variety of community activities and events like a Plant and Flower Sale, the community IMPACT giving garden located on the grounds of Roselle Middle School, beautification events, community wide garden walks and field trips for members.
