Temple Honored by Illinois State Board of Education

MUNDELEIN, Ill. - Fremont Middle School science teacher Megan Temple is a recipient of the 2023 Award of Meritorious Service as announced by the Illinois State Board of Education. She will be presented her award along with educators from across the state on April 29 at the 49th Annual Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet.

Temple, who teaches seventh- and eighth-graders at Fremont Middle School, is in her fifth year of teaching for Fremont School District 79 after joining the District in August of 2018. In addition to her daily teaching duties, she serves as a teacher mentor, Science Olympiad sponsor, and Student Council sponsor.

"I am beyond appreciative and honored to receive this award and recognition," Temple said. "It takes a great team of teachers to do great things for students and I am so lucky to be able to work with some of the best. This award has reminded me to maintain focus on what matters most, and that is to ensure students feel safe and welcomed in my classroom so that they can learn at their best level."

"Megan is an extremely worthy recipient of this recognition," said Fremont Middle School principal Krista Winkelman. "She is a student-centered teacher who utilizes a positive and innovative approach to instruction to ensure meeting the needs of all learners. She brings science to life for her students and makes learning and exploring relevant."
