Innovators invited to attend Maker Faire Lake County

Innovators and creative minds are invited to show their skills during the third annual Maker Faire Lake County on Saturday, April 15, at College of Lake County's Grayslake Campus.

To apply to be a maker, register for free at lakecounty.makerfaire.com/call-for-makers-2023.

Maker Faire celebrates the multifaceted fields of making, from engineers to scientists to crafters. The event also showcases CLC's home for makers, the Baxter Innovation Lab, which opened in 2018. The event is free and open to the public.

Innovations can be hobbies, experiments or projects ranging from human-powered machines and drones to wearables and e-textiles. Showcase items from your organization, after-school program, club, Scout group or start-up.

The attendees will see technology such as 3D printing, computerized numerical control programming, and laser cutting. There will also be opportunities for attendees to become makers with projects including interactive art and technology; kites; puppets; robotics; rockets; or sustainability.

Prior to Maker Faire will be Make-a-Thon on Saturday, March 11, at CLC's Advanced Technology Center. This one-day coding and rapid prototyping workshop is for makers in fifth grade to adults, ending with a team competition.

Mentoring and technical assistance will be provided by CLC engineering interns. All the Make-a-Thon projects will be showcased at Maker Faire Lake County, where attendees will vote on the winners.

Maker Faire applications will be accepted until March 18. For more information, including how to answer the Call for Makers, visit lakecounty.makerfaire.com or email clc.makerfaire@clcillinois.edu.

On the same day, CLC is also hosting open houses at all three campuses and the ATC, as well as the Green Living Fair at the University Center on the Grayslake Campus.
