Orphans' relaunches dog foster program

Orphans of the Storm in Riverwoods is reintroducing its temporary foster program in honor of Valentine's Day.

The short-term foster program, "Paws for Love," has a minimum three-day foster commitment (no strings attached), with animals going to their foster homes starting Friday, February 10.

"Alongside this event, we will also be waiving fees for all our single-pet-home animals," OOTS Head of Development and Community Engagement Sandy De Lisle said.

"While these pets may need to ride solo, they will be the best co-pilot you've ever had! So, take one of them for a spin - you might not want to drop them back off."

Check out the details below to learn about or to participate in the OOTS "Paws for Love" event.

• To sign up, you must first head to bit.ly/PawsforLove and choose your pickup time. There you can select which dogs you would like to potentially foster, but no dog can be guaranteed to any particular person until pickup. Dogs must have been on-site for two weeks or longer. Dogs who are participants in the event will have a "Paws for Love" attribute on their profile.

• After you sign up for a pickup time, you then will receive a "matchmaking" phone call.

• Ensure you have the foster application filled out prior to the call; you can do so at www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/OOTS/Dog.

• Minimum commitment is three days

• Pick up is Friday, Feb. 10, and drop off is Sunday, Feb. 12, or Tuesday, Feb. 14.

• Signup for drop-off times will be communicated after pickup

• Supplies are provided.
