AMS Store and Shred celebrates 45 years of protecting confidential information and the environment

Lake in the Hills, IL - In 1978, Jim Conroy began his family-owned company, AMS, recycling x-ray film and paper.

AMS Store and Shred is a plant based secure document, film, media and hard-drive destruction company servicing customers including but not limited to hospitals, doctor & dentist offices, law offices, banks, police departments, village halls and school districts.

In 1995, AMS became an authorized subcontractor for Eastman Kodak Company to reclaim the silver from the X-rays. Only two companies in the United States have earned the prestigious NAID AAA rating (National Association of Information Destruction) for primarily x-ray film destruction and AMS is one of them. In addition to their NAID AAA certification, they are also HIPAA compliant.

In 2014, AMS launched AMS Med Waste Services for the disposal of medical waste including sharps, infectious waste, and pharmaceuticals. AMS has been a pioneer in offering services that turn medical waste into fuel versus depositing this waste in landfills.

AMS recycles millions of pounds of film and paper every year. These numbers translate to saving over 17,000 trees, 2,000 barrels of oil (enough to run the average car for 1.3 million miles), and 4.2 million kilowatts of energy (enough power for 100 homes for 31 years). AMS's recycling methods also reduce over 3,000 cubic yards of landfill space and 63,000 pounds of pollution per year.

Today, AMS is still focused on security and the environment, expanding their secure document services with digital scanning, record storage, media, and branded material destruction.
