Arlington Heights Garden Club Scholarships

The Arlington Heights Garden Club is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors or college students from the Northwest suburbs who are or plan to pursue studies in Horticulture, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Conservation, Arboriculture, and similar studies. The garden club has three $2,000 awards available for 2023. Details about the application process are available on the club website, www.ahgardenclub.com under the community section. Deadline for the application is March 15, 2023.

In 2022 Arlington Heights Garden Club awarded 3 scholarships of $2,000 each to the following recipients.

Carolina Szoepe

Carolina now attends Carthage College, Kenosha, WI. She attended Harper College where she studied Global Information Systems, Geo Science, Environmental Studies and Data Sciences. She earned a certification in Drone technology to use for research and analysis of vegetation and waterways. She sees her passion and skill for photography to help document and analyze Earth's ecosystems.

Etienne Sirois

Etienne was accepted as a freshman into the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He graduated from Prospect High School in 2022 where he was a member of the band, instrumental ensemble, and ROTC. Etienne is a member of the National Honor Society and is an AP scholar with Distinction. His career goal is to advance the ideas and practices of sustainability in the design and function of gardens.

Jennifer Suszek

Jennifer Suszek was the 2022 recipient of the Wendy Landwehr Scholarship for $2,000. She is currently a student in the Horticulture Program at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. She earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her area of interest is in landscape, specifically in Arboriculture with goals to work in the tree care industry and ecological restoration.

The Wendy Landwehr Memorial Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship to assist students living within 20 miles of Arlington Heights. Wendy was a Senior Life Member, Board Member, Fellow, and a Trustee Nominee for the Society of Women Engineers. She was an avid gardener and a Master Gardener. She enjoyed volunteering at the Chicago Botanic Garden. This scholarship focuses uniquely on an academic/vocational educational approach and is awarded in the memory of this remarkable woman.
