Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley will host a free tutor training workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 6-15 at the St. Charles Public Library.
Trained volunteers will be matched with adult learners who want to communicate in English, so they can be better workers, more effective parents, and involved community members.
Workshop participants will learn about the local effort, the standardized testing methods that help a volunteer tutor know where to start, and teaching techniques that tutors use during lessons.
Volunteers do not have to have a background in education or know a second language to participate.
The workshop provides material and instruction so anyone can help.
To register for the workshop, visit www.lvfv.org or call/text (630) 584-4428.
One of the most satisfying things about being a literacy volunteer is that you get to see the direct results of your volunteer efforts. From week to week, you'll see your student get more comfortable and fluent in English and you'll know you are making a big difference in his or her life.
