'Music and More' series returns to Norris Cultural Arts Center

The Norris Cultural Arts Center recently announced a revival of its "Music and More in the Gallery" event series, including two music concerts and two historical portrayals. All events will be presented at 3 p.m. on Sundays in the Norris Gallery at the St. Charles arts center.

The series kicks off on Sunday, Jan. 15, with "Debra Miller as Agatha Christie: A Body of Evidence." Debra Ann Miller, an actress who specializes in portrayals of historical women of letters, has performed in the Norris Gallery series on several occasions.

In "A Body of Evidence," Miller portrays famed detective novelist Agatha Christie in the spring of 1950, accompanying her husband, archeologist Max Mallowan, on a trip to Iran where she reminisces about her childhood and her life as a writer and adventurer, and contemplates beginning her autobiography - a project that took nearly 20 years.

For information and links to online ticketing for all events in the series, visit www.NorrisCulturalArts.com.

Discounted student tickets are available for these family-friendly performances.

The series continues on Feb. 26 with a performance by the up-and-coming bluegrass quartet, Ransom Creek, all of whose members live in Fox Valley communities including St. Charles. The band's repertoire includes bluegrass, American roots, folk and other acoustic music styles.

On March 26, the series presents "Rachmaninoff at 150: Redekopp & Edwards, with Sarah Holman."

The spring marks the 150th birthday of legendary Russian romantic composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.

The piano duo Redekopp & Edwards and mezzo-soprano Sarah Holman celebrate this milestone with an afternoon of solo and four-hand piano works and vocal solos by Rachmaninoff.

The four-event series concludes on April 30 with "Between Two Comets: The Life of Mark Twain, with Terry Lynch." Nationally known, Batavia-based actor Terry Lynch specializes in portrayals of history's most interesting, inspirational figures.

He portrays American writer and humorist Mark Twain, who lived between the Halley's Comets of 1835 and 1910, and wrote some of the most beloved and controversial literature of the 19th century.

"Music and More in the Gallery" has been on an extended hiatus since early 2020, due to pandemic restrictions and, later, to facilities' usage decisions at St. Charles East High School which prevented the use of the gallery for performances.

The Norris Cultural Arts Center is located on the Norris Campus, which includes St. Charles East High School, at 1040 Dunham Road in St. Charles.
