Bring your pooch to inaugural Corks & Canine event

A Closer Bond (ACB) Dog Center, Palatine, is kicking off the holiday season with an inaugural Corks & Canine event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at Durty Nellie's, 180 N. Smith St., in downtown Palatine.

Friendly dogs of all ages are welcome to attend this free holiday celebration that will feature ACB founder Katy Cushing showcasing obedience training and tricks, along with her staff of trainers. There will also be free wine tastings from Scout & Cellar, pictures with Santa for your pet and a drawing to win a "barkuterie" board.

While this event is free to attend, donations will be welcome to benefit PAWS Chicago, the Midwest's largest no-kill animal shelter that focuses on finding forever homes for homeless pets.

"We wanted to host an event that welcomes not only pet owners but their dogs as well," Cushing said. "This event will be an opportunity to enjoy social time with other dog owners, enjoy wine tastings, raffles and pictures with Santa to ring in the holidays. Anyone who owns a dog is welcome to join us."

At this time of year, there is normally an influx in the purchase of puppies. During the event, training tips that help puppies (as well as older dogs) to develop social skills and manners will be showcased. ACB has a core goal and philosophy to help dog owners develop a closer bond with their furry family members.
