Delta Kappa Gamma Receives $17,055 Stipend

Members of the Alpha Nu chapter of DKG are excited to report that they have received full funding for their recent stipend request awarded to them by the Lambda State Foundation for Educational Studies. The money will be used to purchase over 300 books for their chapter's "Give a Book" fundraiser. Bert Crosslands of Crossland Literacy, Inc., who was our November meeting speaker, has donated an additional 150 books.

The books will go to Waukegan's Kids' Korner, at which one of our members volunteers. Kids' Korner is located in the Waukegan courthouse. This service provides a safe and inviting waiting area for children who are there to testify in court or whose parents or guardians are conducting court business. Volunteers read and do crafts with the children. Each child is given a book to take and read at home.

Alpha Nu supports literacy projects. We do chapter fundraising for literacy throughout the year. Women in education interested in attending any of our programs or meetings or learning more about our organization can get further information from our president, Jan Shawgo by contacting her at chisoxfan_13@comcast.net
