Retired police chief to sign her book at Aurora Historical Society Nov. 8

Retired police chief Kristen Ziman returns to her hometown of Aurora on Tuesday, Nov. 8, for a book signing at the Aurora Historical Society gift shop in the Pierce Art and History Center, 20 E. Downer Place.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the signing will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

The book, "Reimagining Blue, will be available at the gift shop. The price is $26 plus tax, with a 10% discount for historical society members. It is also available online at www.aurorahistory.org.

A native Auroran and a member of the Aurora police department since 1991, Ziman rose through the ranks to become Aurora's first female chief of police in 2016 and came to national prominence when she helmed the department's response to the mass shooting at the Pratt Company in 2019.

Although centered on her theories and practice of police work, the book includes highly personal passages on growing up in Aurora.

She is now popular nationally as a speaker on policing and the empowerment of women.

On display during the book signing will be Ziman's dress uniform which she wore at the time of her retirement and donated to the historical society.

Visitors will be able to view the current exhibit, "Take A Seat," which runs through Nov. 19 and features various forms of seating from the society's collection.

In addition, the 2023 calendar, "Bygone Aurora From Above," will be available at the shop.

It includes 14 views of Aurora taken from high places over the period 1875 to 1957 and is priced at $17.95 plus tax, with a 10% discount to members.
