Chicago Bears 2022 Coach of the week For Week 3 Selected

On Sept. 15, the Chicago Bears announced today that Dedrick DeWalt of Lane Tech College Prep in Chicago has been named the Chicago Bears High School "Coach of the Week" for Week 3. The "Coach of the Week" program is brought to you by Athletico Physical Therapy. The Bears will make a $2,000 donation to the Lane Tech football program.

On Sept. 10, Coach DeWalt helped lead his team, Lane Tech (3-0) of Chicago, to a 35-0 home non-conference game victory against the Hubbard Greyhounds (0-3) of Chicago. This victory made history leading Lane Tech to a 3-0 start for the first time in 15 years. Just into his second season, DeWalt's already made an impact in changing the culture of Lane Tech's football program after being hired back in the Spring of 2020. Before landing the Head Coach role for Lane Tech, Dewalt, a CPS grad of Simeon High School, went on to play football for Boston College for four years. After college, he received the opportunity to play in the NFL; two years for the Tennessee Titans and two years for the St. Louis Rams. As an experienced coach and former NFL player, DeWalt is ready to keep building on their momentum in the hope of competing for the city championship and IHSA state tournament later this fall. Lane Tech next match is at Taft High School (0-3) on Friday 9/16.

The Chicago Bears "Coach of the Week" program was launched in 1996. The "Coach of the Week" program honors outstanding Illinois high school coaches who develop players' football skills and knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities. Deserving high school coaches are nominated by a panel of local prep authorities each week from August 26-October 22.
