Fellowship Housing will host its much-anticipated golf outing at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington. A day of fun and fundraising is promised with a round on the greens, contests and prizes, auctions, food, drinks, and, most importantly, empowering local, at-risk single moms to build a new legacy.
The annual golf outing will return to Makray Memorial Golf Club for the fourth year in a row and will aim to top last year's incredible fundraising total of $190,000. The best part of the event is how so many local nonprofits come together to aid local single moms.
One of the event's longest-running partnerships is with the C.A.R.S. ministry at Willow Creek Community Church which generously donates a car every year to one single mom in need. This might be the blessing she needs to alleviate a budget-crushing car payment or replace a vehicle that costs too much in repairs.
"The Fellowship Housing Golf Outing is the best combination of fun and focused purpose," says Fellowship Housing's Associate Director Amanda Woods. "Everyone in the suburbs understands how financially challenging it can be to raise a family with the ever-increasing expenses of childcare, groceries and housing. When we gather for the golf outing, we are telling single moms in our community that hope and support are available to them. They don't have to stay in a cycle of hardship because Fellowship Housing and caring community members are here for them.
Last year, Renee, a Fellowship Housing graduate, shared her story of moving from constant overwhelm to knowing she can do this.
"I had such a sense of relief [when accepted to Fellowship Housing], but knew the hard work would begin and I was all in. I was so happy and worthy and desperately needed this."
Renee opened her first savings account at 41 years old and after two years in Fellowship Housing, she saved $25,000. Because of funds raised at the Golf Outing, more moms are able to experience the same life-change as Renee.
Fellowship Housing offers two years of safe and affordable transitional housing to moms and their children, including financial training, accountability and a focused path from financial crisis to long-term stability. Over the past four years, Fellowship Housing has seen a 33% increase in the number of moms they serve, including a recent expansion into McHenry County and an expansion to DuPage County in 2022 allowing the organization to now serve 32 families across five Chicago area cities.
Through their two-year pathway to independence, the moms within the program on average increase their income by $8,300, raise their credit score by 68 points, decrease debt by $20,650, increase savings by $6,800, and 88% move into independent housing of their choice upon graduating.
The golf outing will begin at 10 a.m. on Sept. 22, 2022. Individual tickets are available for purchase now and are priced at $400 per person, or $1,600 per foursome, includes an open bar, lunch, cocktail hour, dinner, games passport and giveaways. Dinner-only tickets can be purchased for $75 per person and includes cocktail hour, dinner and open bar. A variety of sponsorships are also available.
