Libertyville's Ansel Brainerd Cook was a shining example of American Pride at Libertyville Days

93 entries were in the Libertyville Days parade whose theme this year was "A Celebration for Everyone". Members of Libertyville's Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter (ABC) National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), Children of the American Revolution (CAR) and Husbands of the Daughters of the American Revolution (HODAR) were all patriotically dressed and ready to walk in the parade carrying the ABC American Flag. Dorotha Betke, one of ABC's senior members was the proud flag waiving passenger in a Red Mini Cooper convertible driven by ABC member Renee Peterson. ABC member Susan McGlade and HODAR Ed McGlade are Civil War period reenactors. They wore their period clothing and also marched in the parade. CAR's handed out American Flags and wrapped patriotic themed candy throughout the parade route.

ABC also had a booth in beautiful Cook Park, fittingly right in front of the Ansel Brainerd Cook Home. The booth was adorned with Red, White and Blue patriotic decorations. ABC members were there to answer any questions about the DAR or anything genealogy related. American Flags and candy were also handed out.

Members of the ABC chapter have a group of volunteer genealogists that assist people in discovering their family roots. These genealogy workshops take place from 10:00am to 1:00pm in the downstairs area of the Cook Library. Anyone is welcome to attend these workshops. The 2022 dates of our upcoming workshops are 7-6, 8-6, 9-7, 10-5, 11-19 and 12-7.

The NSDAR is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States' efforts toward independence. Any woman 18 years or older regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.

The Ansel Brainerd Chapter, NSDAR, is celebrating its 45th year. The chapter was organized in September 1977 in Libertyville by 17 members. The chapter has now grown to include more than 175 members. In 2021, the ABC chapter members logged in 7,705 volunteer hours in the communities in which we work and live.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its 190,000 plus members in approximately 3000 chapters worldwide all have proven their lineage from patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. The DAR is one of the most active service organizations. DAR members have committed to volunteer service having served more than 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world.
