Mainstreet Libertyville Celebrates 30 Years of Lunch in the Park on Friday, June 24

Bring a blanket or lawn chair to downtown Libertyville's Cook Park Fridays, June 24 through Aug. 19, and enjoy live music and food vendors in a casual, relaxing atmosphere.

Out to Lunch Libertyville began in July 1992 and, based on the success of the initial program, was planned as a weekly summer event starting in 1993. Since then, Fridays in Cook Park from the end of June through mid-August have been filled with friends, music and good food.

MainStreet Libertyville will honor the original planners of Out to Lunch in the Park (now called Lunch in the Park) and host Libertyville Mayor Donna Johnson on June 24.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each week, Dangela's Dumplings, Harbor Kitchen & Tap, Magic Crepes, My CharCUTErie, Rosati's Pizza, Sweet Home Gelato, Up in Smoke Creations and Victus Foods will serve a variety of lunch items.

Menu items this year include dumplings, seafood, crepes, salads, charcuterie, sandwiches, pizza, BBQ, root beer floats, gelato and sorbet.

Lunch in the Park offers an ideal way to enjoy a summer afternoon with good food and live music. Kicking off the season is award-winning songwriter and musician Marshall Hjerstedt.

Lunch in the Park will run for nine weeks with the following local entertainment:

• June 24: Marshall Hjerstedt

• July 1: The Others

• July 8: Cole Brandt

• July 15: Jimmy Carroll

• July 22: School of Rock

• July 29: PhilZone

• Aug. 5: Pete Cimbalo

• Aug. 12: One Man Jam

• Aug. 19: Pete Brush

This year's event series will also feature children's entertainment. Look for the following fun activities for children at Lunch in the Park throughout the summer:

• June 24: Cruising Characters from noon to 1 p.m.

• July 1: Face painting by Indica Valentine

• July 8: Photos with your dog to celebrate Dog Days of Summer

• July 22: Puppet Show

• July 29: RC Juggles Glitter Tattoos

• Aug. 5: Brownie decorating to celebrate Dessert Walk

• Aug. 12: Animal Quest

• Aug. 19: Face Painting by India Valentine

Parking is available at the free, covered, four-hour parking garages on Lake Street and Church Street, or take the train. The Metra station is located in the heart of the downtown Libertyville near the shops and restaurants.

Visit the shops in town before or after lunch, or take a stroll in downtown Libertyville, home to more than 30 unique shops and 20 dining experiences.
