Trinity Methodist Church hosts Juneteenth Celebration

Trinity Methodist Church is set to host a Juneteenth Freedom Day Summer Celebration on Saturday, June 18 an event promoted by BREATHE (Bringing Racial Equality Amplified Through Human Engagement) that meets once a month at Trinity.

The event will be held from 3-7 p.m., at Trinity Methodist Church, 605 W. Golf Road, in Mount Prospect.

Joann Smith, heading up this event says, "It's about time! This event is long overdue. My ancestors found out they were free in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation became law in January, 1863. Now, here we are over 150 years later we are finally celebrating our freedom!"

This free event will have children's activities from 3-4 p.m., food will be available from 4-5 p.m., and entertainment will be from 5-7 p.m. There will be African dance performances and music that includes the Julian Davis Reid Quartet. The public is invited to attend!
