Join Fox Valley Orchestra for 'Remember' concert at Marmion Abbey
Wrapping up the 2021-22 season, the Fox Valley Orchestra and Chorus is joining forces on Sunday, May 1, to perform the symphonic poem that is Maurice Duruflé's "Requiem."
With the theme of "Remember," the concert is an opportunity to reflect on what the world has experienced in the last two years.
Led by music director Stephen Squires and chorus master Lisa Fredenburgh, it will feature alto Eunice Ayodele, bass Aaron Wardell, and the Fox Chamber Singers. It will begin at 2 p.m. at Marmion Abbey, 850 Butterfield Road in Aurora.
Inherent in Duruflé's "Requiem" is not only music that is compelling and powerful, but also the message of hope and of a kind and charitable humanity.
Also on the program will be Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" ("A Little Night Music"). This piece contains four movements, Allegro (sonata-rondo) in G major, Allegretto (Trio and Minuet) in G major, Romanza (rondo) in C major, and Allegro (sonata-allegro) in G major. The piece was completed in 1787 but published after Mozart's death. You'll find the piece lively and joyful with multiple memorable melodies. Originally, it was a serenade composed for two violins, viola, cello, and double bass.

The Fox Valley Orchestra also announced the return of the Summer Pops Series.
It will open Sunday, June 19, with the first guest artist - trumpeter Rob Parton. Well known to Chicago-area audiences and jazz fans, Parton can be heard performing and on numerous recordings with his own big band, Rob Parton's JAZZTECH Big Band, as well as guest lead trumpeter with the Chicago Symphony in jazz-oriented concerts. Currently chair of the Jazz Studies department at the University of North Texas, he is equally at home performing with jazz stars and teaching tomorrow's jazz stars. "Cool Trumpet HOT" will be at 6 p.m. at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre.
The series will continue with the"Paganini of the Steelpan" Liam Teague, professor of music and head of steelpan studies at NIU, where he also directs the renowned NIU Steelband. "Calypso Summer" will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 10.
The summer pop series continues with "Broadway in Love" at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24; and wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 7, with "Rhapsody in Pops" at 3 p.m.
Advance tickets for the Summer Pop Series are $24, $20 for students and seniors, or $16 for age 8 or younger. It will be $4 extra at the door.
