Darshana exhibit in Lake County offers glimpse into Hindu traditions

On April 23, 16 members of the Dharmic Organizations of the United States from Chicagoland hosted a launch event of the traveling poster exhibition titled "Darshana: A Glimpse into the Hindu Civilization."

The exhibition had 24 posters prepared by volunteers of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh on various topics, including arts, science, divinity, architecture, scriptures, spiritual traditions, festivals, dress, yoga, medicine and others.

The event showcased several exhibits alongside the posters to enhance the contributions of Hindu culture.

Buffalo Grove Village President Beverly Sussman inaugurated the exhibition by lighting the lamp. The exhibition launch was attended by elected officials, community leaders, law enforcement officials, interfaith members, equity and inclusion officials and educators.

The list of visitors included state Sen. Adriane Johnson, Lake County Regional Superintendent Michael Karner, Vernon Hills Police Chief Patrick Kreis, several school district superintendents, principals, educators, and more.

High school students answered questions from guests while they were going through the exhibition. Guests told the organizers that they were fascinated by the depth of knowledge these youngsters had about their rich culture and civilization, and could not take off their eyes off the creativity shown at the venue. Dignitaries showed interest in hosting this exhibition at their offices.

"I so enjoyed the Hindu celebration. (It was) so enriching," Sen. Adriane Johnson said. "Thank you for sharing your culture. And I was so impressed with the smart and talented young leaders."

"Thank you for having me," Superintendent Karner said. "This was an amazing experience. The exhibits were great. I loved being able to walk around and learn about the culture"
