Chicago Bears Announce Seventh Community High School All-Star Award Winner
APRIL 21 - The Chicago Bears announced today that Brooklynn Syrcle of Argenta-Oreana High School in Argenta, Ill., has been named the seventh Community High School All-Star award winner of the season; she is the first female to win the award. From March through May, the Community High School All-Star award, brought to you by Athletico Physical Therapy, will recognize nine high school football players making a positive impact in their community and school. Each winner will receive a custom hand-painted football, gift bag, and invitation to a future Bears event. The Bears will also make a $500 donation to the charitable organization of the player's choosing; Syrcle has selected Project Linus of Central Illinois.
"Getting this award is such an honor and it's even more exciting that I'm the first female to ever receive the Chicago Bears High School Community All-Star award," said Syrcle. "A huge thank you to all my coaches that have taught me everything I know and push me to do my best on and off the field/court. Since a young age of about 6, I have learned that it is so very much important to give back to not only my community, but every other community I can reach! It's the small things that matter. Small gestures big impact is a platform that I believe in. Just to be able to put smiles on others' faces is an award within itself!"
Syrcle, a sophomore, plays football, basketball, and club lacrosse. Additionally, she is a member of Argenta-Oreana's Scholastic Bowl team. She also enjoys participating in pageants and modeling. Outside of sports, Syrcle has been involved in more than 500 hours of community service over the past two years, including making masks, volunteering with Good Samaritan Inn, participating in community clean-ups and helping at animal shelters. Currently, Syrcle holds a weighted 5.0 GPA, while also being a role model to her younger brother.
"Ms. Syrcle tries to strive on and off the field in any sport she plays here for Argenta-Oreana," said Coach Ron Houser. "We are proud of her determination. She defines everything we preach to our kids about being role models and wearing the uniform with pride. In the big picture of life, her work off the field will forever define her character more than anything. For most kids, high school sports is it and to make your mark on the world in other ways is important. She is always looking to help people and do what she can to make her community better. For small town schools, all sports start with community. Without the community support, we cannot help these kids live to their potential. Helping the community is the best way they can give back for all the support and Ms. Syrcle is the definition of a community person."
