Prospect High wins IHSA Student Section Showdown

Prospect High School - with a focus on service, positivity and inclusion - has again won the IHSA Student Section Showdown.

Schools from around the state submitted three-minute videos depicting school spirit, community service, organization, positivity and inclusion. Created by junior Alyssa Degan, Prospect's video celebrates the EveryKnight spirit of Prospect.

Initially, Prospect was selected as one of four finalists from around the state. The District 214 school was announced as the winner on Saturday, March 12, after all videos were shown on the scoreboard at the State Farm Center in Champaign between the 3A and 4A basketball state championship games.

Prospect Assistant Principal Frank Mirandola lauded student spirit during the pandemic, saying, "Although the last few years have been trying for students, staff and our community, it is inspiring to see the resilience, school spirit and the commitment to EveryKnight.

"Prospect students have found a way to not only maintain positivity, but they have elevated our culture to new heights by increasing inclusivity and engagement."

This marks the third time Prospect has been in the Student Section Showdown finals. The Knights were the inaugural "state champs" in 2015.

This competition was created by the IHSA Student Advisory Committee for students to show how they support their teams during competitions, promote inclusivity, service in their community and positive school spirit.

Schools are asked to produce videos that show their students in action around their community, their impact on sportsmanship and their school pride.
