Wheaton Park District, Rotary Club host Fun Run in Color downtown April 9

Run through clouds of color at the April 9 Fun Run in Color in downtown Wheaton and it's guaranteed you'll come out looking like a rainbow.

The event starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9.

Registered participants may walk or run along the route in this untimed run. All will receive a finisher's medal.

Virtual participants also are welcome.

An after-party featuring a DJ and one final color throw follows the run.

To highlight the contrast, many runners begin this annual event outfitted in starkly white clothing so, they'll be covered with a wild palette of color by the time they streak across the finish line.

Colors are created with nontoxic, tinged cornstarch that will be tossed in the air at various stages of the race. The biodegradable color is safe and easily removed in the wash.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Play for All Playground and Sensory Garden Foundation. The playground offers children barrier-free and universally-accessible outdoor play spaces.

The run is a joint presentation by the Wheaton Park District and the Rotary Club of Wheaton A.M.

"Rotary's motto is 'Service Above Self.' This year, the club will provide in excess of $38,000 for post-high school collegiate and vocational scholarships, and in support of community organizations and for Ukrainian humanitarian relief through Rotary International," said Dan Boyer, president of the Rotary Club of Wheaton AM. "Recent recipients include Northern Illinois Food Bank, Outreach Community Center, People's Resource Center, Ross K. MacNeill Foundation, Rebuilding Together, Donka, BR Ryall YMCA, Jefferson Playground and the Play for All Foundation."
