Waubonsee to host Latinx Resource Center grand opening March 24

Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove will host "La Bienvenida," the Latinx Resource Center grand opening at its Aurora downtown campus on Thursday, March 24, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public.

The LRC staff will be available to discuss the resources and support services the center offers. Participants will be able to visit the center and hear Diana Iracheta, founder of Latina Engineer and a Waubonsee alum, also a first-generation Mexican immigrant, talk about STEM, with a focus on the empowerment of women and Latinas in engineering.

The event will also feature other entertainment and light refreshments.

Programs offered by the LRC include the Creating Alliance through Mentoring and Inclusive Navigation of Opportunities for Students (C.A.M.I.N.O.S.), a mentoring program designed to help students develop themselves professionally, mentally, and academically.

Additionally, the center offers free "Colegio de Empoderamiento" programming, which provides opportunities for families and prospective students to learn about the student experience in higher education, with a focus on navigating college, finding appropriate resources, and working through challenges.

Waubonsee Community College is one of three colleges in Illinois and the only community college in the state to receive a Title V grant to strengthen and expand educational opportunities for Hispanic and low-income students.

Visit www.waubonsee.edu/LRC for more information and to RSVP for the event. The Aurora downtown campus is located at 18 S. River St.
