Dundee Township Historical Museum opens March 13 with 'Windows and More' exhibit

The Dundee Township Historical Museum will open for the new season at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13.

There is no scheduled program but the new exhibits are a program in themselves.

Docents will be on hand to tell visitors about the windows of Dundee's world.

A window from the third floor of the recently demolished Alfred Edwards house, which was located on main Street in West Dundee, reveals the story of a wealthy businessman, an early settler who came in 1837 and helped to build a thriving community.

A second window from the Illinois Iron and Bolt Company, which was located in Carpentersville, inspires the story of a company that began as a simple blacksmith shop to become a world renowned industrial complex under the direction of Julius Angelo Carpenter.

The third window on exhibit comes from the legendary Chateau Louise. What events that window would have been witness to.

Learn the history of a place which was popular, not only to those in Dundee, but was host to visitors from far and wide.

The historical society encourages anyone who worked at or visited the "Chateau" to come to the museum on Sunday, or any other day during regular hours, to share their memories of this iconic gathering place.

The Dundee Opera House exhibit is being repeated for those who were unable to visit during the COVID shutdown. Here is a story of a place, built in 1893, that served as an entertainment center with live performances by vaudevillians to a movie theater to a number of other businesses before it was lost to us as a result of fire.

A number of smaller exhibits are self explanatory.

The museum is located at 426 Highland Ave. in West Dundee with regular hours on Sundays and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m.
