West Aurora High School's Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets finished first and second overall in the Blackhawks' sixth annual drill team competition Saturday, Feb. 5.
West cadets took first place in unarmed varsity division and second in armed varsity division.
About 250 cadets from eight area high schools competed in the main gym, Veterans field house and Red field house.
In addition to West's 40-cadet unit, teams represented Marmion Academy, Aurora; Bolingbrook, Joliet Central, Joliet West, Lincoln Way-East and Central and Concordia-Lutheran, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Erik Pettyjohn, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and West Aurora's Air Force JROTC senior aerospace science instructor, said West cadets' next meet will be Saturday, March 5, at Concordia-Lutheran High School in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
