Schaumburg parks receive international aquatic safety award

The Schaumburg Park District Thursday announced it has been selected for the "Gold International Aquatic Safety Award," demonstrating that its aquatic facilities consistently exceed industry standards in risk management and epitomize safety excellence.

International Aquatic Safety Awards are conferred to deserving aquatic facilities by Jeff Ellis & Associates, Inc. - International Aquatic Safety and Risk Management Consultants.

"We are so proud of our entire aquatics team on this achievement," said Heather Simross, manager of fitness and aquatics at Schaumburg Park District. "Safety training never stops in our aquatics program. Lifeguards are audited daily by managers in Vigilance Awareness Testing as well spinal management drills and unconscious guest scenarios."

Simross said aquatics staff go through more than 6,000 hours of training each season.
