Local DAR chapter delivers valentine smiles to seniors

Members of the Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, NSDAR, in Libertyville recently met as a Service to America project and wrote valentine sentiments in 200 vintage Valentine's Day cards.

They also tagged 100 plush chocolate-scented bears, listing the chapter name.

This was part of their plan to deliver 100 bears and 100 cards on Feb. 13 to Story Point Senior Living Facility in Libertyville, where one of the chapter's longtime members currently resides.

The other 100 cards were for another supportive living facility in the area.

This was done as a way to bring smiles to seniors, letting them know that they are thought of, especially on Valentine's Day.

The chapter assembled a team that consisted of 11 members, one prospective member and two friends of the DAR to help write sentiments in the cards and tag the bears.

The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in September 1977 in Libertyville by 17 members. The chapter has now grown to include more than 175 members. In 2021, the ABC chapter members logged in 7,705 volunteer hours in the towns in which they work and live.
