Waubonsee Community College welcomes new assistant dean for Business, Technology, and Workforce Education
Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove welcomes Jeanine McMillen to the position of Assistant Dean for Business, Technology, and Workforce Education.
The Geneva resident has been employed at the college since September of 2020 as a Professional Writing Tutor and Academic Coach in Academic Support Services. In addition to supporting students' academic development with one-on-one tutoring and coaching sessions, McMillen worked with colleagues to design and facilitate academic webinar programming and served on the division's data management team.
During this time, McMillen also served as a Teaching Graduate Assistant in the Department of Leadership, Education Psychology and Foundations at Northern Illinois University, while working with colleagues on a mixed methods research study of college students' mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic that was published in the Journal of American College Health.
Prior to her roles at Waubonsee and NIU, McMillen was employed at Aurora University, where she taught communication and interdisciplinary courses in the School of Business and Public Policy and General Education Department. Here she gained professional experience as a project manager at a global market research firm. McMillen also volunteers as a founding member of the City of Geneva's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, formed in 2021 based on the city's strategic plan.
McMillen holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Organizational Communication from Marquette University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Saint Louis University, where she studied Creative and Professional Writing and Studio Art. McMillen has completed her doctoral coursework and commenced dissertation research at NIU, where she is working toward a Doctorate of Education degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs.
The college's board of trustees approved McMillen's appointment at their regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 19, 2022.
