WIM Fox Valley to host final event Nov. 4

There comes a time to say goodbye to a solid organization that has made a difference in many lives. That time has come for the Elgin-based WIM Fox Valley, a woman's professional group, founded originally in 1984 as the Northern Fox Valley Chapter Women in Management Inc.

Former members, colleagues and friends are invited to attend a final WIM Fox Valley networking event to joyfully celebrate its accomplishments, support, and legacy in "women, inspiring, mentoring."

The WIM Fox Valley event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Emmett's Tavern & Brewing Co. in West Dundee. There is no cost to attend. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be available.

"Over the past 37 years, WIM has provided many professional women with mentoring, networking, education, and friendship," said WIM co-founder Madalena Lawrence, owner Madalena's Emporium. "As the business world changes and moves on so must we. It's sad, but exciting at the same time. Farewell WIM and thank you for all you've given to us."

Co-founder Pat Szpekowski, president of PR Strategies & Communications, Inc./PmS advertising, inc. in Elgin added, "WIM had a significant imprint on our businesses, hearts and souls. I am very grateful for WIM member support when I started my business in 1987. It provided me with confidence to move forward."

WIM Fox Valley will donate its remaining funds at a later date to the Elgin Community College Foundation to boost its WIM Fox Valley Susan Wyatt Memorial Scholarship. It hopes to continue the legacy of assisting women who pursue continuing their education in business and the trades.

Members of the WIM Fox Valley board of directors include: Joy Symonds, WIM president and owner of Symonds Madison Funeral Home; Ann Louis, CPA, Louis Consulting, Inc., past WIM president; Melissa Davidson, CPA, Davidson Pargman & Company, LLC, treasurer; Michelle Groeper, Tails Humane Society, secretary; Kyla Brittain, director of development, Fox Valley United Way, membership; and Pat Szpekowski, APR, PR Strategies & Communications Inc., communications.
