Scarecrow Rows returns to downtown Glen Ellyn starting Oct. 16

Take a walk around downtown Glen Ellyn to find your favorite scarecrow during the second annual "Scarecrow Row," opening Saturday, Oct. 16.

This free, family-friendly and socially distant event continues through Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31.

While choosing your favorite scarecrow, check out the local storefronts with their Halloween decorated windows and stop by some of the downtown restaurants to try out some favorites on the fall menus.

Vote for your favorite scarecrow created by Scout Troops, community members, local businesses, and nonprofits.

Voting will take place on www.facebook.com/GlenEllynChamberofCommerce awarding the top scarecrows accolades for a job well done.

Scarecrow Row maps will go online on Saturday, Oct. 16, so not to miss one of these unique and homemade scarecrows.

"In 2020, this event was formed to replace our downtown trick-or-treating due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We never could have imaged the popularity of the event in which over 100 scarecrows were created. This just shows what a strong sense of community we have," said Dawn Smith, executive director of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce. "The mission for Scarecrow Rows is to create pedestrian traffic downtown to support local businesses while highlighting all the amazing nonprofits.

"People are looking for something to do for the Halloween holiday that is safe, fun and unique," Smith said. "We are proud to provide Scarecrow Rows!"

Free parking is available at both downtown parking structures and flat lots. Use the map as a resource in helping locate convenient parking in the downtown.

The chamber also invites families to the Glen Ellyn Halloween Spooktacular Festival and Parade from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, downtown.

The costume parade steps off at 9:45 a.m., followed by trick-or-treating at local businesses, as well as festival games and crafts.
