Community Crisis Center names new executive director

ELGIN - The Community Crisis Center of Elgin said Maureen Manning has been promoted to executive director, effective immediately.

Manning, a resident of Elgin, has been with the center since 1977. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor and holds certifications including certified partner abuse intervention professional and certified domestic violence professional.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Community Crisis Center," Manning stated. "The center provides critical services to those impacted by crises, and I look forward to working with my team of professionals to meet the needs in our community."

Prior to her promotion, Manning was director of client services for the center, overseeing all clinical programs and services, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency temporary shelter for women and children, individual and group counseling for those that are affected by homelessness, domestic violence, sexual assault, or those impacted by a medical, legal or financial issue.

"Maureen was instrumental in developing many of the center's programs, including a batterer's intervention program, a transitional living program and community education," said Keith Brill, president of the crisis center's board of directors. "We are excited about the knowledge and experience Maureen brings, as well as her long-standing relationships with key community leaders."

Founded in 1975, the Crisis Center is one of the oldest domestic violence shelters in Illinois and was instrumental in organizing both the Illinois and National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In 1987, the center moved into the former Franklin Elementary School in Elgin's Gifford Park neighborhood and is now home to 62 employees who provide services 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
